Yaku — our promisesHow usable this site is, and where it falls short.

Accessibility Statement

What we have done, what we know is imperfect, and how to tell us.

Hizashikan Aikido wants its website and dojo to be welcoming and usable by as many people as reasonably possible.

Website accessibility

We have designed this website with accessibility in mind.

We aim to provide:

  • clear heading structures;
  • readable typography;
  • sufficient colour contrast;
  • meaningful alternative text for informative images;
  • keyboard-accessible navigation;
  • visible keyboard focus states;
  • appropriately labelled forms;
  • semantic HTML;
  • responsive layouts for different screen sizes;
  • support for browser zoom; and
  • reduced animation for visitors who have enabled reduced-motion preferences.

Motion and animation

The website contains subtle visual effects, including the sun movement used on the homepage.

Where a device or browser indicates that the visitor prefers reduced motion, non-essential motion should be disabled.

The ability to access information or complete a form should never depend on animation.

Images

Hizashikan has an extensive photographic history.

Where photographs communicate important information, we aim to provide appropriate alternative text.

Purely decorative images may intentionally have empty alternative text so that they do not create unnecessary noise for screen-reader users.

Forms

Forms should:

  • have visible labels;
  • provide clear instructions;
  • identify errors understandably;
  • work with a keyboard; and
  • avoid asking for information that is not reasonably necessary.

If you experience difficulty using an online form, you can contact us directly instead.

The physical dojo

Hizashikan trains at Wyken Community Centre in Coventry.

If you or your child has an accessibility requirement, disability or other circumstance that may affect participation or access to the venue, please contact us before your visit.

We will discuss what reasonable arrangements may be possible.

[To be confirmed]

Aikido and individual needs

People have different abilities, mobility and experience.

Where reasonably possible and safe to do so, instructors can adapt training to individual circumstances.

Please speak to an instructor if you have particular requirements.

Known accessibility issues

We aim to fix accessibility problems when we identify them.

[To be confirmed]

At launch, any known issues that cannot immediately be corrected should be listed here together with any available alternative.

Third-party services

Some external services linked from the website — such as Amazon, mapping services, social networks or video platforms — are outside Hizashikan's control.

Their accessibility may differ from ours.

Feedback

If something on this website is difficult to access, please tell us.

It is particularly helpful if you tell us:

  • which page caused the problem;
  • what you were trying to do;
  • what device or assistive technology you were using, if relevant; and
  • what format or alternative would help.

Email: info@hizashikan.co.uk

We will do our best to investigate and provide a reasonable alternative where possible.

Review

We will review this statement as the website develops and as accessibility issues are identified.
