What the mat did for them.
Not our words. Theirs — parents, beginners and students, on what changed after they started training.
From parents
Aziz Sensei creates an environment where my son thrives. His confidence has grown so much — at the dojo, at school, everywhere.
My daughter used to shrink in new situations. Now she bows, steps forward, and tries. Aikido gave her that — and the club feels like an extended family.
We tried three activities before Aikido, and my son quit all of them the moment they got hard. Hizashikan was different from the first Saturday. Nobody was shouting, nobody was keeping score, and the older kids helped him instead of ignoring him. Eight months later he’s still there — and when his little sister asked to come too, he taught her how to bow before her first class. That’s not something we taught him. The dojo did.
From adult beginners
I came for fitness at forty-something, terrified I’d be the odd one out. I was partnered with someone patient, shown everything twice, and I’ve barely missed a Saturday since.
Two hours on a Saturday has done more for my head than a year of telling myself to relax. I leave lighter than I arrive, every single week.
I expected to be the oldest, the stiffest and the most out of place. I was none of those things, and nobody would have minded if I had been.
